End of the year activities can be so much fun, but they also can be a great way to keep students engaged while reviewing rigorous content! Beach week is the perfect end of the year activity to do just that! During the end of the year, we act like we are on the beach for a week and do many rigorous activities in all the subjects to celebrate!
What do I need for beach week?
You don’t have to purchase anything! But if you want to make the day a little more special, I suggest adding some of these fun Amazon finds around your classroom! Find more at my affiliate store here!
You can add beach balls, sunglasses, palm trees, and more!
Or just allow your students to bring in a towel, some sunglasses, and maybe wear swim trunks one day! They will LOVE it and it adds engagement!Â
Why is this the best end of the year activity?
Simple, the students are SO engaged and you can really do academic activities! It isn’t just fluff, it is rigorous, but the kids don’t even notice!
What do we do for this end of the year activity?
In each subject, I have specific activities that I do to review things that we have been learning all year long!
Reading
Reading Rotations- We do centers each day with fun Mad Libs, digital centers, close reading and more! Want the digital centers for free?!
>>>>Head here to grab that free resource! <<<<
Context Clues- We do a context clues lesson where students learn new words about the beach and ocean from their peers!
We read the chapter book, Magic School Bus Shark Escape, and do activities with it each day!
We also read, How to Code a Sand Castle, and do some really fun activities with coding! This one is a favorite end of the year activity for my kiddos!
Math
The kids learn so many skills in math by the end of the year you need to review A TON! Beach week is a great end of the year activity to review so many skills!
Math Review Game with beach balls, sand castles, and more! They review all the skills they learned all year in the most fun way!
Word Problem Race-beach style! Word problems are something kids need to practice 1 billion times, am I right?! Add a little beach component to it and they will love it!
Then, we do some fun beach themed center activities that focus on elapsed time, area and perimeter, fractions, and math facts!
Writing and Grammar
For the end of the year, I love to focus on personal narratives. We do a beach themed personal narrative unit that focuses on kiddos learning how to write a personal narrative and then writing one about a trip to the beach.
We also do a fun center activity with affixes!
Content
All great end of the year activities have science and social studies involved, right?!
For beach week, we…
Learn and practice the Continents & Oceans
Look at Google Maps for a Mapping Activity
Dissolve a Shell in an Acid Experiment
Build a Sandcastle with a STEM Challenge
&& Read Magic School Bus and learn to take notes for informational writing
