Test Prep Games & Activities

Test prep in third grade is a way of the world now. But with high engagement in the test prep, it can be fun and actually work! These easy activities make it more likely that your students will be working hard on their test prep and actually learning! Grab one of these simple test prep games to make your test preparation fun! 

The Olympics

This is a long-term test prep game. Students will become countries and work on test prep activities all week. You will look for a specific skill (i.e. answering questions in full sentences), and at the end of the week, you pick a student from each country who shows that skill. They will face off in a competition to earn bronze, silver, and gold. You do this every week until you crown a champion of the Olympics.

Left, Right, Center

Have you ever played the game LRC? Well, add that to your test prep!

The students answer a question and then you have someone in the class roll the dice. If it says left, they pass it to the left, right to the right, and center they throw their paper in the center of the table. The twist? When it says center they get one minute of an activity before going to a random seat. They could just chat for a minute, do an exercise, a GoNoodle, etc!

Steal Your Shoes

This is a group test prep game for third grade or any grade! 

You have the students take off their shoes and put them up in the front. The group answers the question and if they get it correct they get to go up to the front of the room and spin the spinner (you can do this free online) or grab a piece of paper out of a hat. This spinner or paper needs to have + or – a number on it. That will tell them how many shoes they can steal from the front of the room or how many shoes they have to return.

At the end of the game, the group with the most shoes wins.

Life Size Board Game

This is so fun and so simple! You put the problems on a full sheet of paper and set up a life-sized board game around the classroom. Kids roll the dice and move their bodies that many spots to answer the question. If they are correct, they stay, if incorrect they go back to start. 

You can do this as a whole class or as a center where only a few kids are playing at a time.

Kahoot

Simple, free, and fun!

Head to the Kahoot website here! All you need to do is have your students type in the game pin and you run it from your computer. They answer the questions that are displayed on your board on their computer.

This game is great because you are in control of the pace. So, after each question, you can do a mini-lesson if you’d like!

Plus, there are millions of free games for test preparation ready for you in the search!

Blooket

This is my favorite online review game! The teacher just starts the game, but then doesn’t need to do much. This is great because you can walk around and do little mini-lessons with students. Or you can just sit at your desk and take a break! 😉 

You pick the review game and set a time limit. There are several different versions of the game you can pick from and honestly they are all so fun!

The students do everything from their devices. At the end, you receive a little report which can help show you the most missed questions.

That is great because you can go over these questions as a class or just keep that in your back pocket to know what you need to continue to teach!
