Let March Madness and test prep combine in this fiction and nonfiction reading comprehension challenge! This engaging and rigorous march madness classroom activity will help your students understand important reading skills and practice ! It requires students to read 15 unique passages and answer text evidence questions to cover many standards and skills!

Engagement– Students will be engaged from the beginning to the end of the challenges. In this March Madness activity won’t even realize how hard they are working and how much they are learning about hard skills!

Rigor– This March Madness challenge is HIGH LEVEL and make students really think about the text. They also work on many reading skills.

Low Prep- Want a March Madness activity where all you need to do is print and go?! Well this is for you! All you need is a basketball hoop (or trash can)! Or you can just put it on Google Drive!

Students will become a basketball team and you will complete a march madness tournament. Each round two teams will play, but everyone will read and answer the questions.

If they get the question correct they shoot to determine the winning team for that round. (There are four different questions for each passage)

All of the other teams will earn points for their correct answer.

The final team is the march madness champion.

The team with the most points is the MVP of the tournament!
