End of the year books are a great way to bring reading into the end of the year fun. Today, I am going to share my favorite end of the year read alouds for third and fourth graders!Â
End of the Year Chapter Books
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume:Â
We start third grade with Third Grade Angels and this is the perfect way to end the year with a great read aloud!
The Secret of Shadow Lake (Creature Campers book 1) by Joe McGee:
If you are doing a camping theme in your classroom (read about mine here) at the end of the year then this book is perfect! Plus, it is free on EPIC so you can display it on your smartboard and get the kids extra engaged while doing this end of year read aloud!Â
Cam Jansen and the Summer Camp Mystery by David A. Adler:Â
We all love a good Cam Jansen book! These are super easy reads that meet all the kids (even the lowest ones) where they are! It is easy for them to understand and take the kids right into summer!Â
End of the Year Picture BooksÂ
I Wish You More by Amy Krouse Rosenthal:
This end of the year read aloud is perfect to tell your students how you want them to continue on without you! Each page begins with I wish… and then gives them something you wish for them.
Last Day Blues by Julie Dannenberg:
This end of the year book is perfect for the final days of school! Plus, it is on EPIC for free! Double plus, I have a free companion that is fun and engaging for your students! Find it here!Â
Mrs. McBloom, Clean Up Your Classroom by Kelly DiPicchio:
End of the year read alouds can help you out too! When I read this book, I have the kiddos create ideas for how the classroom can run more smoothly the following year! Some of these ideas really get put into place! This book goes with all my other end of the year activities you can find here!Â
Camping Week Read Alouds:
I love doing a camping week in my upper elementary classroom! I read several end of the year books during this time! If you click the link above you can read about my camping week and what books I use!Â
The Women Who Named Things by Cynthia Rylant:
This end of the year book is a sweet story about a woman who doesn’t want things to end or leave her, but she quickly learns that in order to live a happy life she needs people and memories in her life! You can tie this into all the memories you made this year and how even though the year is coming to an end the memories can live on forever! After reading this book you can do my free digital yearbook found here!
A Fine, Fine School by Sharron Creech:
Want to see if your kiddos want to continue school in the summer?! Well then, this book is for you! This end of the year read aloud is all about going to school all year long! You can even have your kiddos do this opinion writing unit with the read aloud!Â
Â
I hope these fun and easy read alouds can make their way into the classroom for you this year!Â
